I am a Senior Research Scientist at IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, California with over 15 years of experience in generative AI, language modeling, natural language understanding, structured and unstructured text data, model explainability and human-in- the-loop techniques.

My applied research has directly lead to 6 granted patents and 40+ peer reviewed publications. As language modeling and generative AI has become more popular I have had the privilege of participating in some fun “media appearances” and popular press publications.

A Bit of History

I hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science, awarded in 2014 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). My research was in the area of Data Mining, supervised by Professor Jiawei Han.  I previously received an M.S. in Computer Science from UIUC in 2011, and a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Chicago in 2007.
